What is a Hip Hop Deejay? - Zulu Ahki Mista Killa
What is a Hip Hop Deejay?
There is no doubt that ever since the early days of Hip Hop culture Hip Hop has been tainted by commercialization and corporatization, washed down and regurgitated to the masses into something far from its roots. It seems that the today's larger makeup of the Hip Hop community has failed its youth in providing them with the guidance and understanding of Hip Hop culture and the knowledge to distinguish those who aim to preserve and up lift the culture and those who are just in it purely for fame and notoriety.
Hip Hop Dj's being a central figure in the global Hip Hop community have a significant role in shaping peoples understanding and perceptions of Hip Hop culture. Unfortunately we have reached a point where the new generations of Hip Hop DJ's have failed to acquire the knowledge bestowed upon them resulting in a distorted representation of Hip Hop Culture.
"King of the Breaks"
Rest In Peace James Leacy (U.K.)
First Nature Sound System, Foundationz, Moves-Per-Minute / Sweden Universal Zulu Nation)
by: Dj TRAiLS Hip Hop Elements / Pro-Am / Zulu Nation
I realize that most people only saw Dj Leacy as the man behind the turntables or felt his touch only through his music. I hope that by reading this, the world will gain a better insight as to what a great man James Leacy was. For those who don't know, Dj Leacy was the official Bboy Masters Pro-Am Dj since 1998. Speedy Legs was the first person in the U.S. to reconize his skills and his music selection and he invited him to DJ at the Pro-Am in 1998. Leacy was always a very humble person and always reminded Speedy how grateful he was because nobody else would give him a chance before that. Bboy Masters Pro-Am was the event that made Dj James Leacy famous in the United States and Dj Leacy also played an equal role in the success of the Bboy Masters Pro-Am. Having the best Dj in the world helped elevate Pro-Am to one of the best events in the world. After years of laying down the soundtrack and the mix tapes to the one of the greatest events in Bboy history, he started accepting invitations to play at other major U.S. events.

The Hip-Hop DJ
by DXT
Like the Jedi in Star Wars fighting against evil, enduring strenuous training, accepting a life-long commitment to obtaining the knowledge of the universe and being heard but never seen, the Hip-Hop DJ has very much the same destiny.
The Hip-Hop DJ has to endure the process of obtaining a vast knowledge of music and rhythm (the force), be able to synchronize the grooves and beats, and continually search for new sounds to maintain his status in the culture.
